Inosloban-Marawoy
NHS is facing the possibility of having increase in its population yearly. Just like this year, the enrolment increased
by ____% from the last year. Side by side with this instance, 20 new teachers
were also deployed to our school.
For this
reason, Dr. Felipa A. Morada, the principal came up with an intervention of
maximizing the resources our school has despite of the continuous increase in
our students’ population. The idea of
having shifting of classes was taken into consideration to augment the said problem
with the assurance of not compromising the quality of instruction.
After asking
for a permit from the school’s division office, all the plans were laid and
carefully analyzed and aligned. The PTA
officers, members of the sanggunian and other stakeholders were called for a
consultative meeting. Then all the
information were disseminated across all our stakeholders including the staff,
teachers, parents and the students.
Due to an
increase in enrolment, Inosloban-Marawoy National High School implemented the
shifting of classes for this school year.
A two-shift
system involves one class taking the morning session, with the next class
occupying the afternoon one. This maximizes the use of a classroom since more
students can use it in one day.
Towards the
eight - month of implementation, the following points are observed across the
different areas of school governance: It
is then understood that along with the positive points observed, there are also
some negative counter back.
Student
Development:
The teacher – student ratio
of 1:45 is met as per recommended by the Department of Education. Students are given more chances in all
classroom undertaking compared to the previous set-up of 1:60 or 1:70 ratio. Students can maximize their time in the preparation
and completion of their subject requirements.
Students are given more time to attend to remediation classes and to
accomplish some interventions assigned to them.
Students can assist in the family home chores or in the family business
in case of the morning session during afternoon and during morning in the case
of the afternoon session. There are
cases of frequent absenteeism and tardiness both incurred by both sessions due
to incapacity of waking up early brought about by sleeping too late, engaging
in some nocturnal activities, and having personal problems or partially losing
the interest in school. Sometimes,
Independent Cooperative Learning (ICL) session is not effectively done.
