Let

"You
are a Romualdez, the President is an Aquino” says DILG Secretary Mar Roxas II
to the Mayor of Tacloban, Alfred Romualdez in a session held recently. It was
said that Romualdez was begging for the President to send help for the people
of Tacloban but then, his request was denied. It turns out that politics have
ruled over local services.
It
seems that they both have problems with each other but where did it start?
We
all know that Romualdez is a nephew of former first lady Imelda Marcos, whose
husband is Ferdinand Marcos who placed the country under martial law in 1972
and ruled the country for 14 years. In 1983, Aquino’s father Senator Benigno
"Ninoy” Aquino Jr., who had been imprisoned and immediately after his plane
touched down at the Manila International Airport which was later named after
him died. Senator Aquino’s death helped spare the popular movement that would
eventually oust Marcos and replaced him with Ninoy’s widow, Corazon.
Until
now, no one knows who the real culprit behind Aquino’s death. But at those
times who else is blame than he who sets on the position?
But
hey! How many years have gone by?
At
times of calamities, personal issues must be set aside and think of how the
government can satisfy the needs and sufferings our fellowmen had. There are
conflicts between the two clans, yes it is given, but the president is still
the President of the Philippines. It is he who is responsible of sending help
for his people in times of need. It has been years and when will they
reconcile, not only for the whole country but also for themselves?
Let
bygones be bygones, let’s not live through our past but let’s continue to
improve our life by changing what is at present for a brighter future and
beyond.
